Help an urban population to better access a magnificent green space and participate in the upkeep of the Le jardin des sources (Springs Garden) and other municipal sites.

Volunteer project details 

 

The goal is to contribute to the appreciation of green spaces in town, in collaboration with the youth centre of Sainte-Thérèse. The local population, notably the elderly who live near the parc, will be able to enjoy amazing views and keep doing their various activities.

 

Planned tasks 

Weeding and cleaning park paths | Planting trees and perennials | Improving site infrastructure, including manual labour | Planning an open house to invite municipal residents for a celebration and opportunity to share | Elaboration of a creative project to promote the understanding and appreciation of the natural and ecological aspects of the site (ex. power point, photos)

Since 1993, the residents of Saint-Thérèse and groups from Chantiers jeunesse have worked towards the transformation of an old gravel quarry into a new green space in the heart of the town. Le jardin des sources has become a rich and diverse natural space thanks to the work of many volunteers. One of the ponds has even been called ‘lake Chantiers jeunesse’ in honour of these groups!

Volunteer project characteristics        

The group of volunteers will stay in tidy college residences. You will need to plan and budget meals accordingly. You will also have access to wifi.

Area 

The municipality of Saint-Thérèse is a dynamic town with a population of 27 000 where living is good! It’s downtown area, called ‘The Village’, is noted for its effervescence, the variety of stores and its sense of community. It is easy to get around by walking, bike, car, train or bus.

The city of Montreal is 30 km from and accessible by public transport.
