Position: Camp leader and training agent for Intercultural Cooperation Workcamps

Main mission of the organization: Chantiers jeunesse is a non-profit organization created in 1980 to promote the development of young and engaged citizens between the ages of 15 and 30. It gives youth the opportunity to increase their potential and gain new skills while helping a local community better their living environment. They also get to discover a new region in Canada or a new country (more than 35). These projects are made possible with local and international partners who encourage harmony and diversity. Chantiers jeunesse provides different ways for youth to involve themselves and increase their potential!

We are currently looking to put in place a dynamic and motivated team for the implementation of a major and new innovative program called Leadership in Your Own Hands. It aims to promote young adults’ civic engagement, intercultural cooperation and leadership skills in Canadian communities. Canada Service Corp funds this program.

The program has two components. The first one is the Intercultural Cooperation Workcamps (ICW), where a dozen Canadian participants and five international participants volunteer for two weeks. These workcamps meet the different needs of a community: renovation, heritage preservation, environment or culture. The second one is the Entrepreneurship Projects, where a young adult implements their own volunteering initiative with our support.

Job description: CAMP LEADER AND TRAINING AGENT FOR INTERCULTURAL COOPERATION WORKCAMPS

Under the program director’s immediate supervision and in close collaboration with the ICW coordinator, the camp leader and training agent is in charge of putting in place the teaching program of component 1 (intercultural cooperation workcamps). Their training tasks mainly consist of:

Training activities management:

  • Set the participants’ training goals with the team
  • Prepare and try the training material (intercultural communication, participatory management, volunteering impact, etc.)
  • Post the bilingual training program on the online educational platform (material, interactive activities, videos, situation analyses, etc.)
  • Prepare the material for the training weekends

Volunteer and supporting volunteer management:

  • Recruit volunteers (program participants), especially during kiosks
  • Answer volunteers’ answers and follow up on their application until they participate in a workcamp (motivation check-up, administrative follow-up, logistics monitoring)
  • Manage and train volunteer camp leaders during training weekends
  • Manage volunteers

Sociocultural animation:

  • Manage training weekends
  • Manage a workcamp once a year (for two to three weeks)
  • Visit and help camp leaders during their workcamp, if needed
  • Monitor the budget

Activity management:

  • Supervise the organization of events (training sessions before and after the workcamp)

Profile required

Skills:

  • Is responsible and organized (intrapreneurial management)
  • Is self-sufficient and ambitious
  • Has a great ability to communicate effectively
  • Is fluent in written and spoken French and English
  • Is familiar with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Understands budget monitoring

Experience:

  • The applicant has a diploma in sociocultural animation, education, social sciences or a related field or has combined studies equivalent to a relevant work experience.
  • With their training and experience, the applicant has to have a certain knowledge in education, education program development for adults in a classroom or online, or intercultural communication.

Other conditions:

  • Has intercultural experience, such as participating or managing a workcamp (an asset)
  • Has skills in volunteer resources management
  • Has knowledge in community action and social development
  • Has a 4B driver’s licence or can obtain it at their own expenses three months after being hired
  • Can travel in Greater Montréal and for a few days several times a year, elsewhere in Canada
  • Has to be available for a few evenings and about three weekends a year
  • Has to be available to manage a workcamp outside Greater Montréal for two to three weeks a year

Job description:

In close collaboration with the team, the administrative assistant will split their time between different tasks:

Administration:

  • Manage the office on the daily
  • Transfer of information between employees, partners, participants and volunteers
  • Input expense accounts and bills in Sage Accounting
  • Prepare checks and mail
  • Review different types of documents, page layout and archives
  • Create, manage and input data on projects, participants and partners in a big Access database
  • Archive documents electronically and on paper 

Event organization:

  • Ensure administrative and logistics coordination of work, board and committee meetings, sessions with volunteers, etc.
  • Ensure administrative and logistics coordination of major events (training weekends with the participants and big annual events):
  • Follow up on volunteers
  • Buy transport tickets
  • Make reservations (hostel, room, catering service, etc.)

Communications (bilingual):

  • Produce and publish marketing material and communications material for external use in collaboration with the communication officer
  • Edit all documents

Profile required

Experience:

  • Has a diploma in administration, office technology, accounting or a related field or has combined studies equivalent to a relevant work experience
  • Is fluent in written and spoken French and English
  • Is familiar with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Knows how the software Sage Simply Accounting works

Other conditions:

  • Understands the community sector (asset)
  • Has a relevant experience with the public
  • Is capable of managing applications and contract awards for big and small events
