In response to COVID-19 and to continue conforming to directions from public health officials, Chantiers jeunesse has developped additional programming to offer innovative online volunteering opportunities. These opportunities will allow canadian youth to get involved in supporting various community organizations in meeting their needs.

When? Starting in the week of May 11th, for roughly four weeks

How? We will be forming groups of 6 to 10 volunteers who will be accompanied by a group leader for the duration of the project. Together, they will work with an organization to support them in meeting their needs. 

What is required of me? participation will be online or on the phone, and will require a flexible commitment of up to 8 hours per week.

Project with CAFI 

About the organization

The CAFi welcomes and supports Francophone and Francophile immigrants from their first day in the Greater Moncton area. From their first day in the region, they offer newcomers help with getting settled in Greater Moncton, support with schooling and tutoring for children, and invitations to participate in activities that help them understand Canadian society and meet new people.

How you can help
+

This volunteer project will give you the opportunity to create activities that support young newcomers (aged 12 to 18) in improving their skills in spoken French, by organizing conversation circles and other ways to connect from a distance.

Ideally, volunteers for this position will

Aged from 15 to 17 years old.

The ideal volunteer must be patient, open to others, accommodating, and have strong communication skills in French. In addition, each person assigned to this project must have reliable access to the Internet and be comfortable with technology.

Bonus points if you have a firm grasp of social media and / or if you speak Arabic!

 

Project with Quartier des Générations

About the organization

Le Quartier des Générations is an innovative independent living facility that is open to the community and allows all generations to meet through its collective spaces, unifying activities and different types of accommodation. On a daily basis, many seniors, local residents and community organizations collaborate with the Quartier des Générations to work on projects that aim to increase seniors’ involvement in their community.

How you can help

Activities will be centered on health, well-being and intergenerational exchanges. Volunteers will have the to collaborate with residents of the Quartier des Générations on different projects, based on the interests and motivations of each person involved. For example, volunteers could lead virtual yoga classes, start a writing project, collaborate on shared recipes, etc.

Ideally, volunteers for this position will

Aged from 18 to 30 years old.

The ideal volunteer must have a creative streak that can be used towards various co-creative projects with the senior residents; an interest in multigenerational and multicultural relationships; and have the desire to be co-responsible for developing and running a project.

 

Project with The Welcome Collective

About the organization

The Welcome Collective focuses on the needs of refugee claimants who are in a vulnerable position. While their program focuses mainly on securing household furniture, pots and pans, winter clothing and other essential goods, due to COVID 19 they have pivoted their activities to respond to the current situation and ensure food security for refugee claimants in and around Montreal. They are addressing the need for food security for people who either can’t find a source of food because their food bank is closed or who are unable to leave their apartments to access food.

How you can help

We are looking for volunteers who can make phone calls to families to assess needs in their communities. As a volunteer, you will support The Welcome Collective by:

1) Ensuring overall well-being of assigned families;

2) Providing general information about COVID-19 to families (we will share all resources relevant to refugee claimants with you);

3) Helping connect families to food banks in their area;

4) Letting them know which families need an urgent food delivery

Ideally, volunteers for this position will

Aged from 18 to 30 years old.

Have a high degree of discretion, be sensitive to the barriers faced by newcomers to Canada, be open-minded and interested in learning about their current reality, be comfortable getting to know families on the phone to ensure their needs are met, and be comfortable with Google Forms to support The Welcome Collective in tracking each family relying on the program.

Volunteers must be fluent in English and/or French. Competency in another language, although not required, would be an asset.

 

Project with FAFA

About the organization

The Federation of Franco-Albertan Seniors (FAFA) offers a golden opportunity to get involved in the community through its ConnectAînés program. Their teleconference and videoconference format provides a unique opportunity that not only breaks linguistic isolation, but also brings together Francophone and Francophile seniors from all over the province of Alberta to join together to participate in the activities and conversations. No matter the distance between them, their country of origin or their access to French programs in their aread, this programs brings seniors together.

How you can help

Activities will mainly focus on health, well-being and intergenerational exchanges. The idea is to provide an opportunity for volunteers to design and/or facilitate two to three virtual activities per week with FAFA seniors.

Ideally, volunteers for this position will

Aged from 18 to 30 years old.

Be interested in participating, facilitating or co-creating a variety of fun and educational activities; have an interest in developing multigenerational relationships; enjoy group discussions, and be Francophone or Francophile.
